The Braves are back in the World Series for the first time since 1999. It’s an unfamiliar spot for most of their players, but the same cannot be said about the Astros, who return to the Fall Class for the third time in just five years. Because of that, it’s no surprise the Braves are underdogs, but that hasn’t stopped them from upsetting the Brewers and Dodgers to get to this point. Even though Atlanta only won 88 games in the regular season, they certainly have that team of destiny vibe to them. Let’s see if Jake and I agree with our World Series predictions.
Jake Gordon’s World Series Prediction (@cantguardjake)
I’m not picking against my boys — no way, no how — but bias aside, I like Atlanta’s chances in this series. While the Braves have dealt with injuries all season, the Astros are missing a ton of starting pitching. They still have a dangerous lineup that’s very balanced from top to bottom, but so do the Braves. I was impressed with how well Houston battled back after they got rocked by the Red Sox in the ALCS, and it speaks to their resolve as a group.
The key for the Braves is going to be pitching. As simple as it sounds, if they can stay hot at the plate and keep Houston’s bats in check, they’ll be champions. The Astros have not seen pitching like Atlanta’s, and Milwaukee and Los Angeles presented much tougher staffs than Houston will in this series. Brian Snitker will have to continue his playoff excellence as well. Regardless, I like the Braves to win in six and bring a championship back to Atlanta for the first time in 26 years.

Chase Irle’s World Series Prediction (@IrleChase)
Team of destiny is right. I’m not sure why, but there hasn’t been a moment before a game in these playoffs where I have been incredibly nervous, and that hasn’t typically been the case in previous years. For whatever reason, I’ve always thought these guys were going to show up in the postseason. They ended the regular season by playing some of the best baseball out of anyone and have quite of bit of playoff experience on their side, so even though they only won 88 games, I thought they had as good of a shot as anyone to win the whole damn thing. Now, here we are.
I think the Astros will pose the Braves toughest challenge yet. Their offense is electric, and it’s not one that has a clear weakness like the Dodgers did against left-handed pitchers. At some point, they are going to score runs and score them in bunches. However, the Braves bats have been alive since Game 2 of the NLDS, and I think they have a chance to explode in this series. Without Lance McCullers, the Astros starting pitching is a giant question mark, and it nearly cost them against the Red Sox. The Braves should be able to take full advantage, so I’m expecting a ton of runs in this series. It should be a fun one, folks.
As far as my World Series prediction goes, there’s simply no way I’m picking against the Braves. I think their starting pitching gives them an edge in this series; however, they must give Brian Snitker some length. Atlanta’s bullpen is still their weak point, and if they are tasked with pitching a ton of innings in this series, the Astros will find themselves holding up the Commissioner’s Trophy for the second time in the last six years.
