Alex Anthopoulos made a substantial move locking up Travis d’Arnaud, especially with how volatile catcher has been for the Braves in 2021. However, it wasn’t the extension on the minds of Braves fans everywhere. Freddie Freeman is an impending free agent, and he chimed in on Travis d’Arnaud’s new contract:

Braves fans have been asking for a Freeman extension all season, but with d’Arnaud getting a deal done, it’s going to re-ignite those conversations. The Braves actually have back-to-back off days next week, and I think that would be an interesting time to get a deal done. I don’t think Freeman is going anywhere; the Braves have the necessary money to give him a healthy raise while filling in the gaps elsewhere. Still, I’m also not very optimistic anything gets worked out before the end of the season. But hey, I’d love to be wrong on this one.
