Braves: Who Says No — Charlie Blackmon Trade Package

The Braves are missing a huge piece of their outfield with Adam Duvall out for the season. Marcell Ozuna has been absolutely putrid against left-handed pitching in 2022, and the Braves could use another left-handed bat with Eddie Rosario struggling. Enter Charlie Blackmon:

Shoutout to my friend @BravesAshland for the idea. If you missed any previous editions of this series, they’re linked below:

The Player:

OF Charlie Blackmon (2022)

Slash Line: .275/.325/.437/.798

Doubles: 16

Triples: 4

Home Runs: 15

Runs Batted In: 58

fWAR: 1.1

It may not be a stretch to call Charlie Blackmon the greatest player in Rockies history. He has been a staple of the franchise for years, but this isn’t the first time a trade to the Braves has been suggested. Blackmon is a natural fit in Atlanta — especially with their current needs. Blackmon has a player option that would pay him $18 million in 2023, so the Braves likely wouldn’t have to worry about him being a rental. He has been as consistent as they come in all of Major League Baseball, even at 36. Even as a lefty, Blackmon has a .775 OPS against left handed pitching — he’s really the perfect fit for this team.

The Package:

#2 RHP Bryce Elder, #6 RHP Freddy Tarnok, #8 OF Jesse Franklin

This is a steep price, but when you’re trying to pry away the face of somebody’s franchise, you have to pay up. The Braves don’t have room in their outfield for Franklin as it stands, and they just reloaded on live arms in the 2022 MLB Draft. Elder and Tarnok are talented but may not have a place in Atlanta. Three top ten prospects, albeit in a thin system, isn’t a bad haul for Blackmon.
