Most Braves fans that are still tuning into what’s going on in the playoffs take a seat on their couch each night and pray that someone other than the Mets and Dodgers win the World Series, but some Braves aren’t quite done dancing on the graves of arguably their most-hated rivals’ rivals, including one player that was only in Atlanta for a very short time.
Whit Merrifield appeared on Foul Territory recently and had a playful jab at his former team, rhetorically and sarcastically, about what their record was after he was designated for assignment.

It was obviously a joke, but of course, Philly fans are either too aggressive to care or not smart enough to realize it’s a joke.
In actuality, Merrifield’s jab isn’t completely off-base. When the Phillies released Whit Merrifield on July 12th, they owned a 61-33 record. Over their next 78 games, they played .500 ball, finishing the season with a 95-67 mark.
Granted, Merrifield was playing some pretty bad baseball, owning a .572 OPS and hitting below the Mendoza Line. His OPS+ rose by more than 30 points after joining the Braves He played some really good baseball at different points for an Atlanta club that desperately needed it, and this kind of attitude toward the Phillies will only make him more beloved in Braves country.
