Braves: What’s holding up the offseason, and when will it end?

Juan Soto Braves

The Braves offseason is once again off to a painfully slow start, with only a couple of the top names already signed. The good news: that shouldn’t continue for much longer.

According to top MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, Juan Soto is the domino that everybody is anxiously awaiting to fall, with his free agency impacting the market for nearly every other available player. The big market teams that miss out on Soto will then be able to focus on the other top guys, which should result in a lot of the marquee names coming off the board quickly.

As far as when Soto might sign, Rosenthal doesn’t see this dragging out past the Winter Meetings, which are set to begin on December 8th and continue through December 11th.

The end of the Juan Soto sweepstakes will serve as the Bat Signal for the rest of Major League Baseball. At that point, the Braves offseason will begin, and despite the lack of moves thus far, it should be a very active one for Alex Anthopoulos.

Atlanta has to add to their rotation, given Spencer Strider is expected to miss at least a month of the season. That’s probably the Braves’ top priority this offseason, but the outfield must also be addressed with Ronald Acuña Jr. expected to miss at least six weeks, and the bullpen can always use some TLC. Several moves are coming down the pike, and the action could begin as early as this week.
