The Braves begin a four-game stint with the Mets in New York in what could be a pivotal series in the National League Wild Card race.
Atlanta currently sits atop the Wild Card standings and 1.5 games ahead of their rivals in the NL East. The Braves are losers of four straight since the All-Star break, and the Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last couple of months.
Not only are the Braves playing horribly, but they’re also shorthanded with Max Fried and Ozzie Albies on the shelf. Thankfully, Austin Riley, who was placed on the paternity list earlier this week, was reinstated.
The Braves designated Zack Short for assignment and recalled Daysbel Hernandez as well.
The #Braves today reinstated INF Austin Riley from the paternity list and designated INF Zack Short for assignment. Additionally, the club recalled RHP Daysbel Hernández to Atlanta.

The Mets have posted the best record (31-15) and scored the most runs (266) in the majors since May 30th with Francisco Lindor playing himself right into the MVP conversation.
Meanwhile, the Braves continue to flounder, with their best players — particularly Matt Olson — Â severely underperforming. Austin Riley finished the first half of the season strong, and he’ll need to continue to shoulder the load if the Braves want to maintain their lead over the Mets.
Chris Sale will get the start tonight against Luis Severino then it’ll be Charlie Morton and Kodai Senga on Friday, Spencer Schwellenbach on Saturday and Reynaldo Lopez on Sunday.
