Just a week ago, the Braves sat a remarkable 10.5 games behind the Mets for first place in the NL East. It was a larger deficit than Atlanta ever faced at any point during their magical 2021 run. Despite New York being a much better team this year than last, the Braves are catching up. Entering Saturday’s matchup against the Pirates, the Braves are just 6.5 games back from the Mets, and the odds to win the division reflect that shift. Last week, Atlanta was +500 underdogs and had a 15.9% chance to win the NL East. The tide is turning.
FanGraphs odds
Braves: 29.4% chance to win the NL East
Vegas odds
Braves: +300 to win the NL East
The Braves are currently 3/1 underdogs to win the NL East at several betting outlets. They’re as low as +290 and as high as +400 on some different betting sites, while FanGraphs has Atlanta’s chances around 30%. Obviously, Vegas needs more proof that Atlanta is here to compete with the Mets because they’re clearly buying what New York is selling. Chasing them down is going to be challenging, but we’ve seen the Mets melt down time and time again. Now that they’re dealing with some injuries and the Braves are hot, the race for the division will be intense.
