Ken Rosenthal has broken the news that Jonny Gomes has been traded:
Gomes to #Royals.

Gomes has been a great clubhouse presence for a young Atlanta team, but the upper management has decided to move him hours before the waiver trade deadline. Gomes is signed to a 1-year deal with an option that is unlikely to vest, so the Braves looked to get a return on their investment. The Braves will also send cash considerations to the Royals in the deal. He will offer veteran leadership and a nice pinch hitting option for a Royals team trying to make a run at a World Series championship. Gomes has come on hot in the second half, but the Braves have Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher as left field options and aren’t competing anytime soon. Kansas City sent minor league infielder Luis Valenzuela to the Braves. Valenzuela has hit .364 in Rookie and A-ball this season, but is 22 years old. We wish Jonny the best, and I think it would make every Braves fan happy to see him get a ring.
