Braves fans have been eagerly awaiting Michael Soroka’s return to the majors for years, and it feels like there isn’t a better time than now with the injuries to Max Fried and Kyle Wright hobbling the rotation. However, the Braves have remained committed to their approach with the Maple Maddux. They aren’t going to rush things–no matter what–which was apparent in his last time out in Gwinnett on Thursday.
Soroka made it through four innings and looked to be cruising after giving up a three-run homer in the first inning. He had just retired nine of the last ten batters he faced, but the Braves still gave him the hook after only 73 pitches. They have a plan, and they are sticking to it, which we talked about at length on the latest episode of SportsTalkATL.
