Atlanta made their first “September Call Ups” of the month by activating Brian McCann from the 10-day IL.
Atlanta also called up Johan Camargo, Chad Sobotka, and Jeremy Walker.
These are all familiar names, but Camargo has been red hot in Gwinnett. Over his last ten games, he’s slashing .512/.565/.756/ with 4 Doubles, 2 HR, and 13 RBIs. It’s nice to see him get some momentum coming back up to the bigs.
Chad Sobotka had a rough outing on Thursday night, but outside of that outlier, he’s given up 2 ER in his past nine appearances, striking out 14.
Jeremy Walker continues to roll right along. Only 4 ER allowed at Gwinnett in August with two of those coming off of one swing.
Brian McCann is a very welcome sight considering Tyler Flowers has not been his best, and Francisco Cervelli went down with an injury last week. Cervelli is back, but we need BMac on this playoff roster with his world series experience.
One surprising omission? Austin Riley.
Riley has three multi-hit games out of five in this rehab stint; however, he hasn’t hit a home run in August so far. It’s possible he’s still recovering and finding his swing, and I’d rather see more hard contact before he swings for the fences anyway. We need him for this postseason push, and I expect to see Austin up very shortly.
