Braves sign outfielder Carlos D. Rodríguez

Braves hat

According to the Braves official Twitter/X account, the club has signed outfielder Carlos D. Rodríguez to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the blockbuster signing most Braves fans have been anxiously awaiting since the season ended nearly two months ago, but Rodríguez does provide necessary organizational depth. The 24-year-old hit .284 with a .742 OPS this year between AA and AAA while in the Brewers farm system.

The Braves have two holes in their outfield as things stand right now. Left field is a glaring weakness. The Braves could opt to roll with Jarred Kelenic and Ramon Laureano again, but it feels like there needs to be an upgrade. Right field is also now a concern. Ronald Acuña Jr. won’t be ready for Opening Day and could miss the first several months of the season. Even when he does return, it’s currently an unknown how comfortable he will be playing in the outfield. An insurance plan needs to be in place before the start of the season.

However, the Braves outfield concerns don’t just end at the major-league level. Among the Braves top 30 prospects, only two of them are outfielders, which is why adding a player like Carlos D. Rodríguez is necessary.
