There was talk among some that Travis d’Arnaud could be a potential trade candidate for opposing teams, given the Braves feature arguably the best catcher in baseball in Sean Murphy, and d’Arnaud could fetch a pretty penny in a trade. However, the front office put all of that to bed today, announcing an extension with their backup catcher that will pay $8 million next year with an $8 million club option for 2024.
The Atlanta #Braves today signed C Travis d’Arnaud to a one-year, $8 million contract for the 2024 season which includes an $8 million club option for 2025 with no buyout. pic.twitter.com/SkN4NgZIbr

d’Arnaud already had an $8 million club option for next season, so all this does is assure that it is picked up by the Braves and give them an extra year of control at a team-friendly price for 2025.
I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. d’Arnaud is a class act and an invaluable leader in the clubhouse, but it would be understandable if he was antsy for another opportunity as a full-time starter. He could also have easily hit the open market at the end of next season and made more money in free agency.
This is yet another example of a player simply loving the Braves organization. They are the best team in baseball and set up for a decade of success. There is no jealousy in that clubhouse. These guys love playing with each other in front of a rabid fanbase and competing for championships. The culture is second to none, and the results speak for themselves.
