The Braves struck a deal earlier today, trading the injured Arodys Vizcaino and struggling Jesse Biddle to the Mariners in exchange for reliever Anthony Swarzak.
Swarzak has had an up and down career but is just two years removed from his career-best season. The Braves will hope that he can he will find his old stuff and help improve this bullpen now, but he has struggled from 2018 on.
In the meantime, the corresponding move was to send Wes Parsons down to AAA Gwinnett. After a dominant Spring Training in which he walked just one batter and did not give up a run, he has gotten the walk bug as bad as any of the relievers, with a 6.9 BB/9 rate for the season. He received the loss last night after giving up a homer to Ben Gamel, which was the deciding factor in the game.
Parsons still has very promising stuff, and if he can find the plate, he could be one of the better relievers in this bullpen. We will hope that he can work on this in AAA while they give Swarzak a shot.
