In what could end up being a fitting ending to the season from hell, following a devastating loss in Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Mets, NL Cy Young award frontrunner Chris Sale has been scratched from Game 2 with back spasms. He’s considered day-to-day.

If you’ve been paying close attention, the alarm bells should have been ringing for weeks in regards to the health of Chris Sale. The veteran’s velocity was down significantly in his last start, which came on September 19th, and while the Braves have been battling for their postseason lives, he’s yet to make another appearance.
The Braves announced they were just saving him for a potential elimination game if needed, which was sketchy, yet somewhat believable. However, the cat is now out of the bag. Chris Sale isn’t 100%, and the Braves will now turn to Grant Holmes to save their season, who spent a decade in the minors and just made his MLB debut earlier this year.
