If you’ve seen the videos of Ronald Acuña at Spring Training, you’d expect him to be in the lineup on Opening Day. The kid is just a freak athlete and looks like he could go out tomorrow and hit 50 homers. Monday, he told reporters that he felt 95% and was also smoking baseballs 500 feet in batting practice before screaming, “I’m back!”
Brian Snitker has raved about how hard he’s worked to stay ahead of schedule, but it’s incredibly improbable Acuña is out there for the first pitch of the season. Being the face of the franchise, smart organizations wouldn’t rush him back, which is what the Braves plan on doing.
However, Acuña is going to be back sooner than expected. According to Jim Bowden, the plan is for him to DH around April 21 and then playing OF by May 21.
Alex Anthopoulus #Braves GM told us the tentative plan is for Ronald Acuna to DH in a regular season game around April 21st and then playing in the OF by May 21st…of course this is just a light frame work but allows us an idea on what the plan is right now.

This is fantastic news, and it never would’ve been possible without the new universal DH. It won’t be long until we see the best player in the sport knocking balls into the Chop House again.
