The Braves are in the heat of a playoff race, but there are a lot of looming questions this offseason. On top of Freddie Freeman’s extension, Third Base Coach and pivotal member of Atlanta’s staff, Ron Washington, may be in line for a managerial role.
Ron Washington on the Padres’ managerial opening: “I think I’m qualified. I think I can get that team over the hump. That’s my thinking. … I’m definitely able to get them where they want to go.” https://t.co/pA2As6cPUi

If you recall, Ron Washington was a runner-up for the managerial role before now-fired Jayce Tingler was given the job. I firmly believe San Diego is still interested, and I don’t think they make the same mistake twice. I’m happy for Washington, I wouldn’t mind making him the full-time manager in Atlanta, but it simply isn’t going to happen. Wash has been critical to the development of a star-studded Braves infield, and his presence will be sorely missed. Maybe he gets passed over again, but I seriously doubt that it happens twice.
