Both Brian Snitker and Rob Thomson will have some decisions to make in the next couple of days when it comes to their starting pitching.
The Braves have TBA listed announced for Game 3. They could choose to go the bullpen route, or they could turn to one of their young starters in Bryce Elder and AJ Smith-Shawver. Whoever they hand the ball to will be up against the veteran Aaron Nola of the Phillies.
In Game 4, the Braves will go back to their Game 1 starter in Spencer Strider. He was brilliant last time out, tossing seven innings of two-run ball (one earned) with eight strikeouts. However, it wasn’t enough to earn the victory, because the Phillies pitching staff was one ounce better.
Ranger Suarez started for Philadelphia in Game 1 and didn’t allow a run, but Rob Thomson only allowed him to pitch 3.2 innings. Suarez’s body language made it clear exactly how he felt about the early hook, but the decision to go to the bullpen was the right one. They shut down the Braves the rest of the game, giving them a 1-0 series lead.
I have a difficult time imagining Thomson will go in a different route for Game 4. Suarez will be fully rested and only threw 53 pitches in Game 1. However, Rob Thomson was not ready to reveal his plans for Thursday night prior to Game 3 on Wednesday.
