As Braves Country anxiously awaits Alex Anthopoulos’ next move, we sit and watch one of our biggest rivals continue their offseason spending spree as the Dodgers extend Tommy Edman on a five-year, $73 million deal, per Jeff Passan.
BREAKING: Superutilityman Tommy Edman and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a five-year, $74 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. The deal runs from 2025-29 and includes a sixth-year club option. There’s a $17 million signing bonus and deferred money included.

The NLCS MVP was acquired by Los Angeles at the trade deadline and immediately rewarded the Dodgers. While playing center field and shortstop, the switch-hitting Edman thrived during the National League Series, totaling 11 RBIs. He also posted a .988 OPS and drove six runs in five games during the World Series.
Earlier in the week, the Dodgers gave Blake Snell a five-year, $182 million deal as the reigning World Series champions continue to add. The rich get richer, and Braves fans are wondering if Anthopoulos is still enjoying Thanksgiving with his family.
In actuality, the Braves are good for a couple of big moves each offseason, and it’s generally been around Thanksgiving, with Chris Sale being the lone exception. Anthopoulos doesn’t have the kind of wallet that Andrew Friedman has, though.
The club is going to spend this Winter. It’s just a matter of who and when. Compared to the Dodgers or Mets, of course, the Braves look frugal. Everyone does. But to say the Braves are cheap couldn’t be further from the truth.
Atlanta’s payroll has continued to rise every year since Anthopoulos took over, and it’s sat around the top 5 in the sport for a few seasons. The discrepancy between the top spenders in the league and a club like the Braves in the top 10 is vast, but it’s not as dire as some fans would have you believe.
As the Dodgers continue to spend gobs of cash, Alex Anthopoulos is lurking. Our time is coming, Braves Country. Also, not to mention that every other club has remained quiet while the Dodgers write checks. It’s not just the Braves.
