Unless the players and owners make significant progress and come to a deal, a lockout is set to take place at midnight that could go on for a while. However, according to MLB Insider Jon Morosi, Freeman could have a deal complete before the lockout takes place, calling him “the superstar free agent to watch today.”
Freddie Freeman is the superstar free agent to watch today. While many have expected him to return to Atlanta, the Yankees and Dodgers are among the teams with interest, as @JonHeyman has noted. Freeman also could fit the Red Sox. @MLB @MLBNetwork

I have to think that if Freeman signs today, it will be with the Braves. Other teams likely won’t be able to get the physicals needed complete to get a deal done before the lockout takes place tonight. However, there is the chance that Freeman will come to a verbal agreement with another organization.
Over the last week or so, I’ve come to the realization that it is a possibility that Freeman will wear another uniform next season. It doesn’t seem like he or the Braves want to budge, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, where Freeman is from, have money to spend and an opening at first base. The Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox also appear to be involved. I still consider the Braves the favorites to land Freeman, but the longer this goes on, the greater the chance he plays elsewhere.
