The Braves acquired Santana from the Rangers in exchange for cash a couple of months ago to bolster the team’s relief core. He wasn’t the most high-profile acquisition this offseason. After all, he posted a horrid 5.22 ERA over 63 appearances with Texas in 2022. However, his 3.35 FIP suggests he’s in line for some positive regressive, which is even more apparent when looking at his Baseball Savant page

The move to acquire Dennis Santana was followed by a head-scratching one — parting ways with Jackson Stephens. He recorded a 3.69 ERA and 3.54 FIP last season at a cost-effective salary. However, the Braves were able to bring him back a short time after. Alex Anthopoulos has been masterful at building productive bullpens without shelling out lucrative deals. I don’t expect that to change in 2023.
