With Alex Anthopoulos stating that the team will look to add a left-handed bat before the trade deadline, I’m evaluating all possibilities — big and small. However, I won’t solely focus just on left-handed bats in this series. The Braves might look to add a right-handed arm as well, and I won’t totally count them out on starting pitching either.
If you missed any of the previous parts of this series, follow the links below:
Rougned Odor
This is probably the least sexy name that I’ll mention throughout this entire series, but I’m not totally sold on the Braves being big buyers at the deadline. If guys like Soroka, Rosario, Matzek, and even Jay Jackson come back healthy before the trade deadline, they might not need to add much at all, so making a small add like Rougned Odor makes some sense.
Odor is struggling for the Orioles this season, failing to hit over the Mendoza line, but the Braves would only be looking for him to play every once in a while against right-handed pitching while Ozzie Albies recovers from injury. Despite the poor batting average, he still packs a punch in his bat and wouldn’t be a terrible option to platoon with Orland Arcia if he ever begins to cool down. More than anything, Odor would be an upgrade over Phil Gosselin and cost next to nothing in terms of prospects, which is the most attractive aspect of acquiring him.
