There has been uncertainty surrounding Max Fried‘s health stemming from Brian Snitker‘s comments following Sunday’s win over the Orioles. The Braves manager did not commit to Fried making his scheduled start this week, and now he’s been placed on the Injured List with a forearm strain.
The #Braves today recalled LHP Danny Young to Atlanta and placed LHP Max Fried on the 15-day injured list, backdated to May 6, with a strained left forearm.

Despite dealing with a hamstring issue early in the season, Max Fried has looked as good as ever when healthy. Spencer Strider is an emerging star, but Fried remains the ace of this staff and losing him for a lengthy period would be a gut punch to a team that is off to one of the best starts in franchise history.
To make matters worse, the phrase “forearm strain” is never one you like to hear associated with a pitcher. It may sound minor, but oftentimes, it means something much more serious (AKA Tommy John surgery). I hope this is more precautionary than anything, and I’m sure we will get more information in the coming days. There is plenty of time for Fried to get to 100% as long as surgery is not necessary, but Braves fans have every right to be worried.
