As if the beginning of the 2021 season couldn’t get any worse for Max Fried, after already surrendering eight runs last night, he injured himself while running the bases in the bottom half of the fourth inning and had an MRI on his hamstring after the game. It’s been ruled a strain, but rightfully, the Braves aren’t taking any chances with him and placed him on the 10-day IL.
The #Braves today placed OF Cristian Pache (strained left groin) and LHP Max Fried (strained right hamstring) on the 10-Day IL and recalled OF Guillermo Heredia and LHP Tucker Davidson to Atlanta.

Hopefully, Fried is able to return right when he is eligible and bounce back from this slow start, but hamstring injuries can be tricky, so the Braves won’t be in a hurry to rush him back. In his place, Atlanta is calling up the left-handed Tucker Davidson.
I’m a bit surprised they didn’t go with Bryse Wilson, but the plan could be to use Davidson as an extra reliever until Fried’s turn is back up in the rotation. After busting out in 2019, Davidson made his major-league debut last season, giving up a couple of runs in 1.2 innings of work. He is currently ranked 9th on our SportsTalkATL Top 30 Braves Prospects List.
