Following live batting practice on Wednesday, the assumption was that Markakis would be activated from the Injured List on Friday in Washington. That came to fruition today, as the Braves simultaneously placed Johan Camargo on the 10-day IL with a right shin fracture.

The Braves also recalled Touki Toussaint, Bryse Wilson, and Kyle Wright – all of whom can eat some innings down the stretch to keep the regulars fresh for October.
The plan for Markakis will be different than in the past. He will still be playing every day but not in right field. Matt Joyce will start in right against righties, and it will be up to Markakis if he wants to move to right against lefties when Austin Riley is likely in the lineup.
Camargo’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. The Braves super-utility man was finally finding his stride after a stint in Gwinnett and proving he belongs on the playoff roster. Considering it is a fracture, it is difficult to imagine him returning this season which probably opens up a spot for Adeiny Hechavarria.
