The Braves made a roster move prior to tonight’s home opener, and it’s not one I’m particularly excited about. Collin McHugh is headed to the IL with right shoulder inflammation, and Jared Shuster will take his place.
The #Braves today recalled LHP Jared Shuster to Atlanta and placed RHP Collin McHugh on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

Hopefully, McHugh’s injury is nothing serious, but you never like to see pitchers dealing with arm injuries. I thought the Braves could potentially manipulate the roster to make room for Shuster by placing someone on the IL, which would allow Shuster to make tomorrow’s start. However, I don’t think that’s what’s going on here. McHugh is far too valuable as a reliever to place on the IL if there isn’t a legitimate reason.
The Braves have yet to announce their starter for tomorrow, but you have to think it will be Shuster on regular rest. Hopefully, he performs much better than he did in his MLB debut because the Padres aren’t the Nationals. If he starts walking batters against them, it will be a quick night for him on the mound.
