The Atlanta Braves are quickly falling out of contention in the NL Wild Card race, losers of three straight games. Atlanta now sits two full games behind the Mets for the last Wild Card spot in the league, and they’re running out of time to find a groove.
The good news: the Braves still have three games with the Mets left to play, a series that will take place at Truist Park. On top of that, Ozzie Albies could be starting at second base when that series arrives next week. The Braves star second baseman began his rehab assignment with the Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday night, and in his first games back after nearly two months, he homered, a three-run blast lined over the left field wall.

Albies would finish the game 2-for-3 with a homer, single, and a walk.
With the way the Braves have lost the last three games, particularly last night, a game in which they opened up a four-run lead but could not hang on, it’s hard to be excited about much. A two-game deficit in the Wild Card race might as well feel like a million games with the way this team has played over the last five months. It’s been one step forward, and two steps back the entire season.
According to Brian Snitker, Ozzie Albies could return to the Braves lineup as early as Friday against the Marlins. His presence is desperately needed, but it may just be too little too late.
