The Braves are hoping to get Ozzie Albies back soon. He began his rehab assignment last week with the Gwinnett Stripers, and while the results at the plate have been encouraging, the weather isn’t helping the Braves second baseman join the major-league club any faster.
Ozzie Albies' rehab stint thus far:
Thursday: 0-for-4
Friday: 2-for-3
Saturday: Scheduled rest
Sunday: Rain out
Monday: Scheduled offday
Tuesday: Rain out— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) September 7, 2022
Despite less than a month to go in the season, I don’t expect the Braves to change anything with how they would typically bring Albies back.
First and foremost, the team is clicking on all cylinders right now. They are winners of six straight, and Vaughn Grissom has been a tremendous fill-in at second base. There’s no reason to rush Albies back until he feels 100% in all aspects of the game, even if that means waiting until the last week or so of the season.
It’s not like Ozzie Albies is coming back from a sprained wrist or bruised knee. This is a fractured foot we are talking about that has kept him out for over three months. He needs to be brought back cautiously, and while his presence down the stretch and into the playoffs would be monumental, it will only work if he’s feeling at or close to 100%.
