Following the postponement of Wednesday’s game against the Nationals, the Braves made a couple of decisions on their young arms. They have decided to skip Kyle Wright’s spot in the rotation and go straight to Max Fried in Game 1 of their series with the Phillies. We will see if that is just a one-time thing, or if the Braves are looking to replace him in the rotation as they’ve already done with Mike Foltynewicz and Sean Newcomb. At the very least, Wright appears to be on his final straw this season after an abysmal outing against the Marlins his last time out.
The Braves have also decided to option Bryse Wilson back to Gwinnett camp.

Wilson appeared one time after he was called up earlier this month, relieving Touki Toussaint against the Yankees, and it wasn’t pretty. He was lucky to allow just two earned runs in 1.2 innings after walking four and giving up a homer. It was also evident that his secondary offerings haven’t taken the necessary steps forward for him to be a successful starting pitcher in the majors right now.
The most intriguing part about the Braves decision is who they will replace Wilson with on the roster. Given just how bad Toussaint and Wright have looked in their last two outings, it almost feels like they have to call up a top prospect like Ian Anderson. But since the Braves have opted to give Robbie Erlin and Josh Tomlin starts over the last two weeks, I have learned to temper my expectations.
No one seems to understand how the 40 man roster works. Ian Anderson ain’t on it. Patrick Weigel and/or Tucker Davidson are which means they’d get starting opportunities before Anderson barring some very creative roster juggling.
