Braves old friend announces retirement

MLB: APR 12 Reds at Braves

An old Braves friend has announced his retirement from baseball after 12 seasons. Ehire Adrianza made it official on his Instagram page.

“This journey has been incredibly challenging, filled with ups and downs, but every step along the way has been a blessing that I cherish immensely,” Adrianza wrote.  “Since my childhood, I dreamed of the possibility of winning a World Series, a goal that once seemed so distant and almost unattainable.  However, thanks to my effort, dedication, and the unwavering support of each one of you, that dream has become a reality.  I still find it hard to believe that I have had the honor of playing more than a decade in the Major Leagues.  I never imagined I would achieve so much, and it’s astonishing to reflect on this experience.”

Over his 12-year career, Adrianza spent time with six clubs from 2013 to 2024. He won two World Series with San Francisco in 2014 and Atlanta in 2021.

While never particularly great at any one thing, Adrianza hung around the MLB for so long because of his ability to play anywhere on the diamond, making at least 16 career starts at six different positions.

Oftentimes, Adrianza was just a bench player, but with the Twins in 2018 and the Braves in 2021, he played 114 and 109 games, respectively. His ability to come off the bench and start wherever Brian Snitker needed him made him invaluable to the 2021 Braves team that won the World Series.

Adrianza also came up with one of the biggest pinch-hits in franchise history in Game 6 of the NLCS, doubling down the line with two outs, which set-up Eddie Rosario’s series clinching three-run homer off of Walker Buehler. That hit won’t be remembered like Rosario’s, but without it, the Braves might still be searching for their first World Series title since 1995.

We want to congratulate Ehire Adrianza on an incredible career.
