The majority of the big league manager spots have already been filled despite the MLB season not officially being over. Joe Maddon will head to Anaheim and will be replaced by David Ross. Joe Girardi will head to Philly. The Mets’ decision should come soon. This morning, the Padres named Jayce Tingler manager, and he will become the second-youngest manager in the MLB. This is interesting because he beat out old-schooler Ron Washington, among others who interviewed for the job.
Braves fans will not be complaining. While their third base coach certainly deserves another shot, it will be a luxury to have him back in the dugout in 2020, assuming that is the case with most jobs being filled. Washington has been instrumental in shaping youngsters Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies, as he is always at the ballpark bright and early ready to lead infield drills. Based on his major league experience, with Washington, the Braves essentially have two legitimate managers in their corner. So while many may have been rooting for Washington to get another chance at managerial duties, Braves Country will be welcoming him back with open arms as he continues to be a fan favorite.
