Freeman had a procedure on his elbow during the offseason and has been shut down for a few days as it has flared up a bit with an increased workload. However, as mentioned in the interview above, they consulted with Freeman’s doctor, and the team is not concerned at all. They are expecting him back in the lineup sometime next week. Hearing the words “Freddie Freeman” and “elbow” is a cause for concern, but at the same time, this does not seem out of the norm when ramping up activity following a procedure. Anthopoulos mentioned it was “expected.”
Anthopolous also downplayed Mike Soroka’s slight tweak as anything serious, and he should return to the mound on either Friday or Saturday.
As of now, the only Brave that expects to be out for a while is Cole Hamels, who will likely return in early May. The organization will continue to monitor Freeman going forward, but as Alex said, “if the doctors aren’t concerned, we’re not concerned.”
