If you’re wondering why the Braves waited until now to promote top prospect Cristian Pache, this is it. Following one of Markakis’ best games of the season last night, he has been placed on the IL after potentially being exposed to COVID-19.
OF Nick Markakis has been potentially exposed to COVID-19. He has tested negative for the virus, but out of an abundance of caution, Markakis has been placed on the injured list.

It’s a wise decision for the Braves to exercise as much caution as possible in this situation. We’ve seen just how rapidly the coronavirus can spread once it enters the clubhouse, and an outbreak would pretty much doom the Braves, just like it has the Marlins and Cardinals.
So while the news of top prospect Cristian Pache making his MLB debut is exciting, there is a substantial negative involved. Markakis leads the team in batting average at a .353 clip. However, his health is most important, especially since he was seriously considering skipping the whole season amid the pandemic but re-joined the team just two weeks ago.
