Markakis fractured his wrist in late July after being hit by a pitch. He began throwing ten days ago and is now on track to return for the final two weeks of the season. In his place, guys like Matt Joyce, Rafael Ortega, and Adam Duvall have filled in admirably, but with Austin Riley continuing to struggle, the Braves could desperately use Markakis back in the lineup every day. The veteran right fielder was hitting .284 with nine home runs, 22 doubles, and 55 RBIs before hitting the IL.
