According to several sources close to the Braves, Max Fried is scheduled to start Sunday’s game in Philadelphia. Brian Snitker said the blister is gone, and he will throw a bullpen today and on Thursday. As long as there are no setbacks, he will toe the mound for the series finale against the Phillies, following Mike Soroka and Kevin Gausman.
In other news, the Braves still have hope that Darren O’Day will return at some point this season. Snitker says he has been long-tossing but has yet to start throwing off a mound. The earliest they would expect him ready is late August or early September.
O’Day was supposed to be a valuable piece to the Braves bullpen but has yet to suit up for Atlanta due to forearm tightness. If he does return, he could provide a monumental boost to a unit with plenty of questions surrounding it. O’Day was once an All-Star reliever for Baltimore and boasts a career 2.56 ERA over 11 seasons.
