Braves: Max Fried could return as early as next week

Braves offseason free agency

The Braves rotation has been shaky to start the season, but that’s what happens when you lose two of your top guys to the IL within the first week. Kyle Wright is scheduled to make his first start of the season tonight after missing the first two times through the rotation because of a shoulder injury he’s been rehabbing all offseason. Next up is Max Fried, who suffered a hamstring strain in his debut outing of the season, but he’s also close to a return.

The lefty that finished second in last year’s NL Cy Young race has been progressively ramping up his workload and is now throwing off of a mound and participating in fielding drills. He’s eligible to come off the IL Saturday, and the Braves are hoping he can make his return next week.

When Fried returns, the Braves will have a fully healthy rotation for the first time all season. Given Bryce Elder‘s emergence, this group is set to be one of the most formidable units in the league, and they could receive an even bigger boost with Mike Soroka, who continues to turn heads in Gwinnett as he ramps up his workload.
