In a bit of unfortunate news, one of the two significant Braves names left unsigned is heading back to California
The Padres and Mark Melancon are in agreement on a deal, pending a physical, sources tell The Athletic.

It hurts to lose Melancon, especially after trading Tristan Beck for him in the deal with the Giants, but not all hope is lost. Chase outlined some solid options here, and Melancon is probably quite expensive. The deal won’t be worth the $14 million the Braves owed him last year (before pro-rated salaries), but it won’t be cheap. I like Trevor Rosenthal, and Shane Greene is still on the market. However, this serves as another impending reminder that time is running out for the Braves to patch up their bullpen.
