The Braves pitching staff has been unbelievable in recent weeks, but the best general managers never stop adding throughout the season. You never know what can happen over the next six months, and the Braves should know that as well as anyone given three of their All-Stars have already missed significant time this year.
According to the team’s official X account, the Braves have acquired Jimmy Herget from the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations, who has been optioned to AAA Gwinnett.
The #Braves today acquired RHP Jimmy Herget from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations, and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.

After a lackluster 2023 campaign for the Angels in which he posted a 4.66 ERA over 29 appearances, Herget failed to make this year’s Opening Day roster and was eventually designated for assignment a few days ago.
It may seem like a minor transaction, but this is a player that is just a season removed from posting a 2.48 ERA, 2.82 FIP, and 0.913 WHIP over 49 appearances for the Halos in 2022. The Angels are one of the worst teams in baseball when it comes to getting the most out of their pitchers. The Braves, on the other hand, are one of the best. Nobody should be shocked if Herget comes to Atlanta and regains his 2022 form if he is needed.
