Today, the Braves announced they have added the newly acquired Brad Hand to the active roster. In a corresponding move, rookie Daysbel Hernandez has been placed on the 15-day IL with right forearm inflammation.
The #Braves today reported LHP Brad Hand to Atlanta and placed RHP Daysbel Hernández on the 15-day injured list, backdated to August 1, with right forearm inflammation.

Brad Hand gives the Braves another lefty option in the bullpen, which is especially important with Dylan Lee still on the IL. As it currently stands, A.J. Minter is the only other lefty reliever, and he’s pitched in the last two games since returning from the IL. Hand will have to earn a permanent spot on the roster once Lee comes back, but he’s a veteran with tons of experience and has had a lot of success against left-handed batters.
My hope is the decision to place Daysbel Hernandez on the IL with forearm inflammation is more roster manipulation than anything serious because oftentimes, forearm inflammation can mean something much worse. We will keep you updated with any new information that comes to light.
