Despite what all the Joe Simpson haters had to say, I have always thought the Braves have a fantastic broadcast team year in and year out. Last year, it got even better. In their first full years in elevated, full time broadcasting roles, Jeff Francouer and Ben Ingram were fantastic, while Joe Simpson was much better on the radio. It was different, but because the openings were filled internally, it felt the same.
The great news is that the Braves will be retaining their broadcast team for 2020, per CEO Derek Schiller. One could have wondered if this was the year Frenchy would receive a national TV role after his debut season, but not yet. Francouer will rejoin Chip Carey as the lead television broadcasters.
Jim Powell, Ben Ingram, and Joe Simpson will all return for radio coverage, and Schiller reiterated that the door is open for Don Sutton to return anytime, health permitting.
It is comforting knowing we will have the same sounds of the Atlanta Braves, and at the same time, have two up and coming broadcasting stars who will hopefully be around for years to come. The season can’t get here fast enough.
