Braves make flurry of roster moves ahead of series against Rockies

Ozzie Albies Acuna Braves

The Braves made a couple of roster moves ahead of their series against the Rockies. Most notably, Ozzie Albies is back after missing two weeks with a hamstring strain. They also added starting pitcher Darius Vines to the active roster. In corresponding moves, Jared Shuster and Vaughn Grissom have been optioned back to Gwinnett.

It goes without saying that getting Albies is a welcomed boost to the lineup and should go a long way in helping the Braves secure the best record in baseball with the Dodgers coming up this weekend in Los Angeles. Nicky Lopez filled in admirably, but Albies is the best second baseman in baseball and amid a career year.

However, the most interesting move here is the addition of Darius Vines. He’s one of the top pitching prospects in the organization and has been stellar on the farm since returning from injury. In nine starts, he owns a 2.70 ERA with a 9.6 K/9, and I do think we finally see him make his major-league debut this week, perhaps pushing Spencer Strider‘s start back a day so that he is scheduled to face the Dodgers.

The Braves are aiming to give some of their starting pitchers some rest down the stretch, and Vines has earned this opportunity. Look for him to start Wednesday’s series finale against the Rockies.
