Rain spoiled two of the farm’s five scheduled games on Thursday, but the Mississippi Braves ensured the system had an exciting night. Here’s a recap of all the action…
(23-27) Gwinnett StripersÂ
L, 6-1 vs. Durham
- SP, K. Wright – (L), 6 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, HR
- 3B, J. Camargo – 2 for 4, HR, 2B, RBI
- 1B, R. Casteel – 2 for 4

This 9th-inning home run (shown above) by Johan Camargo was really the only highlight for Gwinnett as they barely avoided a shutout loss to Durham, now the owner of the league’s most wins. For Johan, he’s coming off a strong month of June in which he slashed .299/.358/.437 to go with seven XBH (two HR) in a span of 25 games.Â
Starter Kyle Wright pitched somewhat better compared to his last time out for the Stripers, but his six walks (a season-high) really came back to bite him, like in the 3rd when he walked two of the first four batters and the Bulls cashed in with a three-run homer. An RBI double by Durham against Wright in the 4th added to the damage, and the righty was removed after six, giving him a 4.06 ERA for the season.Â
(31-20) Mississippi BravesÂ
W, 14-12 (F/10) vs. MontgomeryÂ
- SP, H. Deal – 5 â…“ IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
- 3B/2B, W. Rijo – 3 for 5, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, SB
- SS, B. Shewmake – 2 for 5, HR, 2B, 2 RBI
This one didn’t wrap until nearly midnight (ET) as Mississippi once again found a way to win on Thursday night in a game that featured a combined 26 runs from 31 hits.Â
WHAT A TENTH! The M-Braves send nine to the plate and get SIX RUNS, to take a 14-8 lead!

Yes, you read that tweet right. The M-Braves scored six runs in extras to go up 14-10 in their half of the frame. Even more bizarre, though, the Biscuits put up four runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame, nearly coming back. Just a wild game all the way around.
The pitching was pretty dreadful for both clubs, and starter Hayden Deal probably had the worst outing of his 2021 season. However, the top-third of the Mississippi lineup is worth a few words. The trio of Wendell Rijo, Justin Dean, and Trey Harris combined to finish last night 7-for-17 at the plate, including two homers, a triple, a double, six runs, and nine RBI.Â
DUCEEEEEEEEEEE
Make it 8-0 M-Braves in the 2nd inning as @JustCallMe_Duce blasts a 3-run homer!

Following a pretty blah first month, Harris appears to be reverting to his 2019 Player of the Year days. Since June 9 (a span of 16 games), the outfielder is hitting .327 with two homers and six RBI.
Other notable performances from the win…
- C, C. Martinez – 2 for 5, R
- RF, G. Jenista – 2 for 5, 3B, 2B, RBI
- 2B, J. Miller – 1 for 3, 2B, R, BB
Prospect Shea Langeliers had Thursday off.Â
(26-22) Rome Braves
PPD vs. WilmingtonÂ
Rome will make up its rained-out game from yesterday with a doubleheader on Saturday.
(22-28) Augusta GreenJacketsÂ
L, 3-1 vs. ColumbiaÂ
- SP, J. Johnson – (L), 3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, HR
- 3B, C. Bunnell – 1 for 4, HR, RBI
- 1B, L. Stephens – 1 for 3, BB
Augusta ran into some strong pitching last night, only tallying four hits and striking out 13 times altogether. As a result, the highlights were minimal for the GreenJackets, save for this solo-homer by lead-off batter Cade Bunnell in the 1st…

Starter Jared Johnson racked up a season-high in strikeouts with five, and for the third time in four starts this year, he held the opposing team to just three hits. However, a two-run 3rd and a wild pitch by reliever Kenny Wells in the 5th allowed Columbia to come away with the win.Â
(1-0) FCL Braves
PPD vs. Orioles (Black)
The FCL Braves 2021 season started this past Monday, and the team has played a total of 10 innings.Â
