The Braves could use a starting pitcher, preferably one who could start in the postseason, but it won’t be Trevor Bauer, who was the butt of Chippr Jones’ jokes.
Yesterday, Bauer went on his seemingly weekly rant about how he should still be in the majors, even going as far as saying, “There are like 20 hitters on the planet that are true competition for me. Id steamroll the rest of them.”
To which Chipper Jones responded, “The comedic aspect of this app (X/Twitter) is what I’m here for!”
Jones then added Trevor Bauer would be the number three starter… for the Gwinnett Stripers.
On the field, Bauer is probably deserving of a contract. Is he worth $50 million like he says he is? No. Are there only 20 hitters that could challenge him? No. But he’s certainly better than some arms taking up major-league roster spots.
Off the field is where things get sticky for the Braves and other MLB clubs. Bauer has been accused of sexual assault, sued reporters for defamation, and is just an overall nuisance on social media. There are so many reasons not to bring him to Atlanta.
A few years ago, Bauer was one of the best pitchers in baseball, but he hasn’t thrown to MLB talent in quite some time. Considering all of the backlash from Braves Country and the possible clubhouse drama, is a back-of-the-rotation arm really worth all of that trouble?
Perhaps for some team, but not the Atlanta Braves.
