The Braves have gotten reinforcements over the last few weeks, but more are on the way. Kirby Yates began his rehab assignment and was recently assigned to AA Mississippi. There’s still hope Mike Soroka will return this season, and most importantly, Ozzie Albies is on his way back.
The Braves expect their star second baseman to return before the end of the season, but how he progresses could determine whether they make a trade for another second baseman at the trade deadline. Yesterday, Snitker provided no update on Albies, which suggests he’s still a little while away from a return.
Snit also said he had no update for Albies. So, it looks like the second baseman may be sidelined more than two months. Albies fractured his foot on June 13.

The middle of August is the earliest Albies can return after he was placed on the 60-day IL, but it looks like it could be longer than that before we see him. If that’s the case, adding another guy who can play second base is more like a necessity.
Despite his home run last night, Orlando Arcia has been awful since Albies went down. He’s hitting just .148 with a .493 OPS over his last 18 games. And Robinson Canó isn’t the answer either. The Braves could opt to wait this thing out, but if there are any concerns that Ozzie Albies won’t be ready until September, they should probably add another option before the trade deadline.
