The Braves aren’t set to play for another two-plus hours, but they have already won the day. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman has reported that Kyle Wright‘s rehab assignment is set to begin in Rome on Thursday.
Kyle Wright will make a rehab start for Rome on Thursday

Kyle Wright has been dealing with shoulder issues since last year. It caused him to miss the first part of the season, and when he did return, the injury quickly flared up, forcing him to be shut down again after just five starts.
Wright hasn’t pitched since May 3rd in Miami. It’s been a long road back, and this rehab assignment is just another step. Just like Max Fried, Wright will need several starts on the farm before the Braves even think about bringing him back up. The goal on Thursday for Wright will likely be around 25-35 pitches, and most importantly, avoiding any setbacks. A minor setback for Wright at this point will surely end his season.
If everything goes well moving forward, however, Kyle Wright is on track to return before the end of the season. It will likely be late September, but there is the potential for him to pitch in the postseason, especially in a potential NLCS matchup, which won’t take place until mid-October. That’s plenty of time for Wright to get stretched out, and given the way he’s pitched in recent playoff outings, I don’t think the Braves will be scared to send him out there if he’s 100% healthy.
