The Braves have several pieces currently on the IL — most notably, Ozzie Albies and Spencer Strider, who could both return at some point during the postseason. However, Kirby Yates is also close to coming back, and he’s set to throw a simulated game on Friday.
Kirby Yates is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Friday. He feels good, and has already thrown bullpen sessions. Even if he doesn’t pitch in October, he’s looking forward to staying ready with the taxi squad and taking positive momentum into the offseason.

As Toscano notes, Kirby Yates’ role with the team moving forward isn’t known. As of now, I would say he’s a long shot to make the postseason roster, but that could change with just one injury. We saw how many fresh faces made an impact during last year’s World Series run. If the Braves make it back to the Fall Classic, there’s a chance Yates eventually plays a role, so it’s promising to see him nearing a return right as the postseason is set to begin.
