The Braves announced Monday afternoon that Jonny Venters will be hitting the 10-Day Injured List with a calf strain. They have yet to say who will take his place tomorrow before the series opener with the Diamondbacks.
Perhaps this calf strain is what has been preventing Venters from being his normal self early this season. The southpaw, that was one of the best stories in the MLB last year, has a 20.25 ERA in six appearances this season. It’s been so bad he’s only been able to finish 2.2 innings in those six outings, walking five, allowing six hits, including two home runs.
The velocity and movement are still there, so it is too early to count him out yet. Although, at 34-years old and with his injury history, this may be the beginning of the end for Jonny Venters.
