After a wave of injuries, the Braves are finally receiving some positive news. Dansby Swanson traveled to Colorado to meet the team and has been activated today. Austin Riley is progressing well in his rehab assignment as well and will be in Gwinnett this week, while Nick Markakis is ahead of schedule in his return. If Brian McCann’s injury isn’t deemed too severe; the Braves could be close to full health for the final playoff push. And they might be able to add another weapon to their lineup in the form of Johan Camargo, who has been streaking since his demotion to AAA Gwinnett.
Camargo has hit safely in all nine contests with six multi-hit games for the Stripers. That’s good for a .474 batting average to go along with his 1.170 OPS, four doubles and a home run.
There has been a noticeable trend with the Braves this season. Every time a player comes up from Gwinnett; they lite the world on fire immediately. Austin Riley was the hottest man in baseball in his first month with the Braves. Adam Duvall had a magical first week in his return to major league baseball. Mike Foltynewicz looks like he’s back to his 2018 form, and maybe even better, after his month-long stint with the Stripers. Even Rafael Ortega blasted a grand slam against the Dodgers after being called up. Johan Camargo has the talent to be a critical piece for the Braves in October. He can play almost every position, and his hit-tool is far better than he has shown this year. Hopefully, these consistent at-bats help him find the confidence he has been searching for all season.
