Two weeks ago, Jesse Chavez went to the IL after getting struck by a line drive on the leg from Miguel Cabrera. It was a scary moment, where I immediately thought he suffered a broken leg, similar to what Charlie Morton experienced in Game 1 of the 2021 World Series. However, X-Rays were negative, so it seemed like Chavez avoided disaster.
The diagnosis was a bruised shin, but Chavez hasn’t progressed like some might expect. He’s still walking with a cane, and Brian Snitker says it is too early to tell when he might be ready to return.
Jesse Chavez is still walking with a cane. His shin bruise will keep him sidelined longer than expected. Snit said it’s too early to know when the vet reliever might return.

Chavez has been elite for the Braves, but this isn’t the worst thing ever. The team is going to have some difficult decisions to make in regard to who they will let go when Chavez and Dylan Lee return, so this gives them some more time. However, they need Chavez back to be the best version of themselves.
