Depending on where you look, you might find Michael Harris listed as the top prospect in the organization. I’m not quite there yet, but he should undoubtedly be in everyone’s top-five. Harris is a true five-tool prospect that’s still growing into his body, and once he gets stronger, he could be the next member of the Braves to join the 30/30 club.
Despite all the hype, the Braves look to be taking things slowly with Harris. He started 2021 red-hot, which had many wondering if he would be promoted to AA at just 20-years-old. However, the Braves opted to keep him in high-A, and it’s a good thing too because he slowed down considerably to end the season. Still, Harris finished his 2021 campaign with a more than respectable .798 OPS, slugging seven homers and swiping 27 bags on 31 attempts.
The former third-round pick and Georgia native should begin next season in Mississippi, and I would be surprised if he didn’t spend the entire year there. The Braves don’t have any reason to rush him, and they also have a full outfield in Gwinnett. Harris is a fast-riser, and I don’t expect him to stumble in AA, but the Braves need to figure out what they have in Drew Waters, Cristian Pache, and others before moving Harris up. Of course, Harris could always force their hand, but he would have to really dominate for that to happen, which seems unlikely based on how he finished last season. This is probably THE prospect in the Braves organization to keep an eye on in 2022, but temper expectations and don’t expect the Braves to move him through the system as they did with Ronald Acuna.
