Both coaches will serve as assistant hitting coaches for the Braves.
Quattlebaum was most recently the assistant director of hitting for the Arizona Diamondbacks. This will be his first full-time position on a major-league club. Prior to that, he spent time with the New York Mets, including a stint as their interim hitting coach to end the 2021 season.
Méndez will also be coaching at the major-league level full-time for the first time in his career, quite the promotion for a guy that has spent the last 17 seasons helping develop the Braves talented youth on the farm, spending time at every level along the way.
The two will join new Braves hitting coach Tim Hyers, who was hired to replace Kevin Seitzer. The club opted not to retain Seitzer after a disappointing 2024 campaign, which saw the offense go from one of the greatest of all-time to the middle of the pack. Hyers, though still relatively young, has already helped two different organization to World Series titles, the Red Sox in 2018 and the Rangers in 2023.
